Padres likely to hang on to Adrian Gonzalez awhile longer
Adrian Gonzalez(notes) wasn't traded this summer, and the Padres appear unlikely to deal the All-Star first baseman this offseason, according to an ESPN report.
"Even if they miss the playoffs now, coming off a year this successful, it nfl jersey
would be difficult for them to move him," an official from another major league team told ESPN. "They're still scrapping and clawing, trying to get people back into their park and build back their base. So it would be a precarious decision to endanger that and trade him. I'd really be surprised if they did that now."
With the Padres not expected to contend this season, it wasPittsburgh Steelers jersey
widely assumed that they would deal Gonzalez prior to the July 31 nonwaiver deadline for younger, more affordable players. However, the Padres have been in first place since mid-June, eliminating any chance of them trading their best hitter.
Gonzalez, who is batting .308 with 27 homers and 90 RBIs this season, is Minnesota Vikings jersey
signed through the 2011 season. He will make $5.8 million next season.
