Jets re-sign WR Clowney, cut RB-WR Woodhead
The New York Jets bolstered their thin receiving group by bringing back a familiar face.
The team re-signed wide receiver David Clowney on Tuesday, nfl throwback jerseys
and waived running back-wide receiver Danny Woodhead, a day after a season-opening 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.
The Jets had only three true wide receivers on their roster - Jerricho Cotchery, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith - and will face the high-scoring New England Patriots on Sunday.
Coach Rex Ryan said the Jets would look into bringing in a wide receiver, and even said veteran Laveranues Coles was a possibility. Coles was released on Aug. 29, ending his third stint with the team he began his career with. The 32-year-old Coles has said New York would be his last stop and might retire.
Clowney has 15 career catches in two seasons with New York, and has Indianapolis Colts jersey
struggled with consistency. Still, the speedy receiver might boost the Jets' passing game after it was a non-factor against the Ravens.
Mark Sanchez completed just 10 of 21 passes for 74 yards, and rarely challenged the Ravens' secondary.
Woodhead, one of Ryan's personal favorites, played against Baltimore but registered only a special teams tackle. The versatile 5-foot-9 former NCAA career rushing leader from Chadron State had eight catches for 87 yards and ran for 64 yards in 10 games last Minnesota Vikings jersey
season. Woodhead spent the 2008 season on injured reserve after injuring his left knee during training camp.
