Ravens starter Kyle Boller has a partially torn labrum in his throwing shoulder and that condition may call for surgery. The surgery could delay his start or could knock him out for the entire season.
It's been reported that Boller has elected to go with non-surgical treatments for a week to see if he can get back to the field and throw again. After that week, he'll need to make another decision if he still can't throw.
Initial tests via a MRI were not hopeful. But Boller, who was hurt in a preseason contest versus the Minnesota Vikings, and the Ravens are waiting for the results from other tests.
If Boller is knocked out, the starting spot could go to rookie Joe Flacco. Although Flacco is third on the depth chart, the second-string QB, Troy Smith, is dealing with a viral illness and will not be ready to play when the season starts. Baltimore did sign free agent QB Casey Bramlet on Wednesday in an attempt to create some depth at the position.
